An armed attack on a party in the town of Tonala, Mexico, left at least 11 people dead on Saturday.

The bodies of ten men with bullet wounds were found on the sidewalk, according to a statement from the Jalisco State Attorney's Office. The body of a minor was found in the house, also with gunshot wounds, and a woman and a boy were injured.

Suspects opened fire from the window of a pickup truck, according to the report.

Since the start of Mexico's so-called war on drugs in late 2006, violence has escalated in this country of some 126 million people. Nearly 100 murders are currently being recorded every day, and more than 82,000 people have disappeared.

The bloodshed is largely attributed to the cartels and gangs involved in smuggling drugs into the neighboring United States. These organizations, often with links to security forces, also make money from kidnapping, extortion and other crimes.

Only about 3% of the crimes reported in Mexico are solved, according to figures from the IEP think tank.
