Spider-Man, first Covid-era film to top $1 billion at the box office

The new Spider-Man became the first Covid-era film to gross more than $1 billion over the Christmas weekend at the box office, film industry firm Exhibitor Relations said Sunday.
Spider-Man: No Way Home, starring British actor Tom Holland, collected $467.3 million in North America and $587 million internationally, or more than $1 billion over 12 days, confirming analyst expectations.
It joins Star Wars: The Force Awakens which achieved this performance in 2015, according to Variety magazine, despite the spread of Omicron, the highly contagious Covid-19 variant that is now disrupting the entire world.
