Trump announces that his Florida residence has been raided by the FBI

Former U.S. President Donald Trump announced Monday that his famous Florida residence, Mar-a-Lago, had been raided by the federal police (FBI).

These are dark days for our nation as my beautiful home, Mar-a-Lago in Palm Beach, Florida, is under siege and has been searched and occupied by numerous FBI agents, he said in a statement, claiming to be a victim of political persecution. After working and cooperating with the relevant government agencies, this unannounced search of my home was neither necessary nor appropriate, he said. They even broke into my safe!, Donald Trump was indignant. The FBI has not yet confirmed the search. The Republican did not indicate the reasons for this police operation. It is linked, closely or remotely, to several ongoing legal cases. A parliamentary commission is seeking to shed light on the role that the billionaire played in the assault on the Capitol on January 6, 2021.

On that day, hundreds of Biden's supporters caused violence and chaos inside the congressional building, delaying the certification of Biden's presidential victory. The Justice Department is investigating the attack, but has not yet filed charges against the former president. In late July, however, Attorney General Merrick Garland did not rule out the possibility. We intend to hold accountable anyone who is criminally responsible for (his or her role in) the events around Jan. 6, in any attempt to interfere with the lawful transfer of power from one administration to another, he said. Donald Trump, always popular among Republicans, is increasingly openly flirting with the idea of running for president in 2024.
