Texas: at least 46 migrants found dead in a mass grave truck, no water was found in the vehicle

The number of people found dead Monday in a truck in Texas has risen to at least 46, according to a new toll released at a news conference by the San Antonio fire chief.

We have so far taken in about 46 bodies, said Hood, who said 16 injured people - 12 adults and four children - had been taken in and were conscious as they were transported to medical services.

Trucks such as the one found in San Antonio, about 240 km from the border with Mexico, are a common means of transportation for migrants seeking to enter the United States.

Such a journey is extremely dangerous, especially since these vehicles are rarely air-conditioned and their occupants quickly run out of water.

The patients we saw were hot to the touch, suffering from heat stroke, heat exhaustion, no water was found in the vehicle, the fire chief listed.

Mexican Foreign Minister Marcelo Ebrard regretted on Twitter a tragedy and said that the Mexican consul, although we do not know the nationalities of the victims, was going to the scene.

Texas Republican Governor Greg Abbott immediately seized on the drama to blame it on Democratic President Joe Biden.

These deaths are (Biden's) responsibility. They are the result of his deadly open borders policy, he attacked.

The arrival of illegal immigrants increased sharply after the election of Joe Biden, although since his arrival in the White House he has tried to stem the flow of migrants by entrusting this thorny issue to his vice-president Kamala Harris.

In 2017, a similar tragedy left its mark: ten migrants died in an overheated trailer parked in a parking lot near San Antonio.
