Sylvie Claire / August 22, 2021

Heavy rains in the southeastern United States caused severe flooding in the state of Tennessee on Saturday. According to an updated report from local media, at least ten people are dead and about 40 residents are missing.

The rain caused the Piney River to burst its banks early in the day. A state of emergency was declared in nearby Dickson, Hickman, Houston and Humphreys counties. The situation is dangerous, the local weather service warned in a tweet. Some families are unable to leave their homes due to rising water. Power and telecommunications systems are also down in many places.

It rained more than 30 centimeters in many places, but the rainfall is expected to stop this Sunday.
