Several dead after shooting in Florida store

Steph Deschamps / August 28, 2023

Several people died after a shooting in a Jacksonville store on Saturday, announced the mayor of this large city in northern Florida, without giving a precise death toll.

Several deaths" are to be deplored, said the elected official, quoted by local media.

According to WJXT, the suspect died after shooting at cars and barricading himself in a Dollar General store. Police SWAT teams had been deployed.

There are more individual guns in the USA than there are people, not least because of the ease with which Americans have access to them. One adult in three owns at least one gun, and nearly one adult in two lives in a home with a gun.

The consequence of this proliferation is a very high death rate from firearms in the United States, without comparison with other developed countries.

On Friday evening, two women were shot and wounded in Chicago (north) while attending a game of the White Sox, a Major League Baseball team.

And on Saturday morning, gunshots wounded seven people at a Caribbean festival in Boston, with no fatalities.
