Alec Baldwin's fatal shooting: the police will seize the actor's phone

Steph Deschamps / December 17, 2021

The American police officers in charge of the investigation into the death of a filmmaker on the set of the film Rust were authorized on Thursday to seize the cell phone of Alec Baldwin. The actor was handling the gun involved in the accident. He is also a producer of the western.

At the time of the tragedy, last October 21 in a ranch of Santa Fe (New Mexico), Alec Baldwin worked a scene with the director of the photography Halyna Hutchins. Alec Baldwin maintains that he never pulled the trigger of the gun when the shot went off, saying he was content to cock the hammer. And he said in a television interview that he had no idea how a real bullet could have been on the set of the film and gotten into the gun, which he was told was harmless.

A warrant, issued Thursday, estimates that there may be evidence in the phone relating to this case, such as messages or emails sent or received by Alec Baldwin regarding the production of Rust. According to the warrant, Alec Baldwin had exchanged emails with the armorer of the shooting concerning the type of gun to be used in the fatal scene. The armorer had presented him with different models but Alec Baldwin said he had asked for a bigger gun.

No arrest took place to date in this file but criminal proceedings are not excluded in the event of responsibilities being established, had underlined shortly after the tragedy the services of the prosecutor of Santa Fe. In his interview with the channel ABC, Alec Baldwin had declared not to feel guilty nor even responsible for the death of Halyna Hutchins.
