91-year-old emir of Kuwait underwent successful surgery

The Kuwaiti emir, 91-year-old Sheikh Sabah al-Ahmad al-Sabah, has been successfully operated on, the Minister of Royal Affairs announced on Sunday, without specifying where exactly.
The emir of Kuwait, head of the wealthy oil country in the Gulf since 2006, was admitted to the hospital on Saturday to "undergo medical examinations". In September 2019, Sheikh Sabah had undergone medical examinations in the United States. He had his appendix removed in 2002 and had a pacemaker inserted in February 2000. In 2007, he had urinary tract surgery in the United States.
The crown prince, Sheikh Nawaf Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, 83, has taken over the reins of state in the meantime.
