Bitcoin surpassed the $50,000 mark for the first time on Tuesday, benefiting from the interest of a growing number of investors despite its volatility.

At around 12:35 GMT (13:35 in Brussels), Bitcoin cost $50,547.70, an all-time high, up 4.4% for the session and nearly 75% since the beginning of the year.

The value of cryptography was recently propelled by the announcement of a massive $1.5 billion investment in bitcoins by electric car manufacturer Tesla, which also plans to accept it as a means of payment.
