President Trump says he saw no evidence of Alexei Navalny poisoning

Donald Trump said on Friday that he had seen no evidence of the poisoning of Russian opponent Alexei Navalny, adding, however, that he had no reason to doubt Berlin, which for its part said it had "unequivocal evidence ».

"We have not yet seen any evidence" on the origin of this poisoning, the US president said in a press conference, promising that the United States was looking very seriously into the matter. He expects to receive documents on the case soon, which will allow the United States to take a stand.

This case is "tragic", "terrible", commented Mr. Trump. He said he understood the desire to act against Russia, but also insisted that he has good relations with President Vladimir Putin. "I have been firmer with Russia than anyone by far," he added.

Germany claimed on Wednesday that Alexei Navalny had been poisoned by a "Novichok-type" nerve agent, ushering in a new phase of tension with Russia, which Berlin is asking to explain.

"From what Germany is saying, it appears to be," Trump said. "I would be very angry if that was the case. »

The EU, NATO, Washington, Paris and London have already put pressure on Moscow on this issue.
