War in Ukraine: Vladimir Putin says he is ready for negotiations with Donald Trum

Sylvie. Claire / January 25, 2025

Russian President Vladimir Putin said on Friday January 24 that he was ready for negotiations with his American counterpart Donald Trump on Ukraine, without giving a concrete date. “I wouldn't elaborate on that, but I can only say that the current president has said he is ready to work together,” Vladimir Putin said. “We have always said, and I want to emphasize it again, that we are ready for these negotiations on Ukrainian issues,” he added.

The Kremlin's host praised the “pragmatic” and “intelligent” character of his American counterpart, believing that the latter would not seek to bring down the price of oil, because his own country would suffer as a result. “He's not just an intelligent person, he's a pragmatic one”, said Vladimir Putin.

Indeed, the Russian president assured us that the “crisis in Ukraine” of 2022, the year the Kremlin triggered the conflict, might have been avoided if Donald Trump had been in the White House. “I can only agree with (Donald Trump) that if he had been president, if they hadn't stolen the victory from him in 2020, there might not have been the crisis in Ukraine that occurred in 2022,” he told state television, echoing unfounded claims that the 2020 presidential election had been ‘stolen’ from Donald Trump.
