Vladimir Putin also promises "severe" retaliation in case of Ukrainian attacks against Russia.

Russian President Vladimir Putin promised Monday "severe" retaliation in case of new Ukrainian attacks against Russia, two days after the partial destruction of the Crimean bridge, a strategic infrastructure and symbol of the annexation of the eponymous Ukrainian peninsula.

If attempts at terrorist attacks on our territory continue, Russia's responses will be severe and their scale will correspond to the level of threats posed," Putin said at the opening of a televised meeting of the Russian Security Council. "No one should have any doubt," he warned.

The Kremlin declined to comment on the bombing campaign on Ukraine on Monday, after being asked whether it was retaliation for the partial destruction of the Crimean bridge on Saturday.

All this is done within the framework of the special military operation, for the answers it is necessary to see with the Ministry of Defense," said Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov, before adding that "the main steps ... can not be carried out without a report to the commander in chief," Russian President Vladimir Putin.

At least five people were killed and 12 injured in the series of bombings that hit Kiev on Monday morning.

In addition to the capital, Kiev, targeted for the first time since June 26, strikes were also reported in Lviv, in the west, far from the front line, as well as in Dnipro (center) and Zaporijjia (south).
