The Spanish government announced Wednesday that it is sending five electric generators to Ukraine, where Russian attacks on energy infrastructure have left more than a thousand towns in the dark.
The Spanish government announced Wednesday that it will send five electric generators to Ukraine, where Russian attacks on energy infrastructure have left more than 1,000 towns in the dark and electricity restrictions are expected to begin Thursday.
"In view of the recent Russian attacks on the electricity infrastructure, which have severely affected the electricity supply of Ukrainian citizens, (...) the Ministry of Defense will immediately send generators to this country," a ministry statement said.
These are four generators of 400 kilowatts of power and a fifth of 150 kilowatts, which belong to the Spanish Air Force.
The equipment will be transferred "within the next three days by land to a logistics center" in Poland, from where it will then be transported to Ukraine, the Ministry of Defense added.
More than 1,000 Ukrainian cities are without electricity due to Russian bombing, which Ukraine says has destroyed 30% of the country's power plants in just over a week.
Restrictions on electricity supply will be introduced across Ukraine from Thursday, the Ukrainian presidency announced Wednesday after several rounds of Russian strikes targeting critical infrastructure
