War in Ukraine: Russian military expert calls on Vladimir Putin to launch large-scale nuclear strikes on UK and US

Russian military expert Igor Korotchenko called on state television for the Russian president to use nuclear weapons against the UK and the US in the event of a NATO attack.

A military expert close to Vladimir Putin threatened both the United Kingdom and the United States with large-scale nuclear strikes as Russia reiterated its accusations against Ukraine on Monday that it had entered the "final phase" of making a "dirty bomb," allegations that were brushed aside by Kiev, which invited international experts to come inspect its facilities.

If NATO goes to war with Russia, we cannot limit ourselves to appealing to international law... to the UN charter," Korotchenko said on Rossiya-1, a Kremlin-controlled media outlet. "There is only one way," he said. "They [the West] must know that if they try to fight with Russia in Ukraine or on our territory, there will be only one answer," he added.

Paris, London and Washington together on Monday blasted "false" statements by Moscow. "No one would be fooled by an attempt to use this allegation as a pretext for escalation," they stressed in a joint statement.

Nato boss Jens Stoltenberg said the same thing later in the evening on Twitter after meeting with Pentagon chief Lloyd Austin and British Defense Minister Ben Wallace: "Nato Allies reject this allegation. Russia must not use this as a pretext to escalate" the conflict in Ukraine.
