Kherson, an important city in southern Ukraine recaptured Friday by Kiev troops after the withdrawal of Russian forces, is "ours," said Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky on Friday hailed "a historic day" after Kiev troops retook Kherson, an important city in southern Ukraine, after the withdrawal of Russian forces.
"Today is a historic day!" he congratulated himself in his daily address published on social networks.
"Our people. To us. Kherson," he had written on Telegram a few minutes earlier, accompanying his short message with the blue and yellow Ukrainian flag.
The Ukrainian army had announced in the afternoon to have "entered" Kherson, in southern Ukraine.
In his daily address, Volodymyr Zelensky said that the Ukrainian army "is currently on the outskirts of the city. "But special units are already in the city," he said.
The Ukrainian president finally praised the courage of the people of Kherson who have lived under Russian occupation since mid-March: "They have never abandoned Ukraine," he said.
