The official website of the Kremlin, Kremlin.ru, was offline Saturday afternoon. The hacker collective Anonymous claimed responsibility for the attack.
Operations are underway to keep Russian government sites offline and to disseminate information to the Russian people without being subjected to the Putin state censorship machine, the group said on Twitter.
Since Russia's invasion of Ukraine, there have been several attempted cyberattacks on government websites and state media.
On Thursday, cyberattacks orchestrated by the hacker group Anonymous would have notably put out of service the network of the Russian public television channel Russia Today (RT). The hacker group announced Friday that it was officially in cyberwarfare against the Russian government.
