Ukrainian missile fire caused a fire on board a Russian cruiser, the Moskva, Ukrainian authorities said Wednesday night.
Neptune missiles protecting the Black Sea caused significant damage to the Russian ship, said the Ukrainian governor of the Odessa region (south), Maxim Martchenko.
An adviser to the Ukrainian president, Oleksiy Arestovich, confirmed on Youtube the Ukrainian strikes against the ship, without indicating its location either.
It burns with intensity. Now. And with this rough sea, it is impossible to know when they will be able to receive help, he said, assuring that 510 crew members were on board.
These claims were not immediately verifiable by AFP from an independent source.
No fire on a military ship has been reported so far by Russian news agencies.
On March 24, a month after the start of the Russian invasion of Ukraine, the Ukrainian navy claimed to have destroyed a Russian troop ship anchored in the port of Berdiansk, a city near Mariupol on the Sea of Azov.
Moscow had not confirmed this allegation either. The Russian army rarely gives information about its losses.
