War in Gaza: Hamas government announces new death toll of 12,300

Steph Deschamps / November 20, 2023

The government of the Islamist Hamas movement announced on Saturday that 12,300 Palestinians had been killed in Israeli bombardments of the Gaza Strip since the start of the war on October 7.

More than 5,000 children and 3,300 women are among the dead, according to the government. A further 30,000 people have been injured. The Hamas Ministry of Health, for its part, claims that dozens of bodies are strewn across the streets of the northern Gaza Strip, and that it is impossible to count them because the Israeli army is targeting ambulances and medical personnel attempting to approach them.
