Joe Biden will ask the U.S. Congress on Friday to "urgently" fund aid to Israel and Ukraine, "our essential partners", he declared in a solemn address to the nation on Thursday.

"It's a smart investment" that will bring more security to Americans "for generations to come", added the American president.

Palestinian Hamas and Russian President Vladimir Putin "both want to completely annihilate a neighboring democracy", Joe Biden also declared from the White House. "Hamas and Putin represent different threats, but they have this in common," said the US president in a solemn address to the nation.

On the other hand, "America is a beacon to the world", "even today", the Democratic president warned on Thursday of the harmful effects of "political pettiness" on the role of the United States abroad.

We can't let political pettiness and anger get in the way of our responsibilities as a great nation," he declared, referring to the chaos that has continued to paralyze the US Congress since the Speaker's impeachment in early October.
