Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky announced Friday that Kiev forces had retaken 30 localities from Russian troops in the northeast of the country, where Moscow has sent reinforcements to deal with the offensive. Ukraine had already said it had recaptured 20 of them the day before.
At present, the Ukrainian armed forces have liberated and taken control of more than 30 localities in the Kharkiv region, bordering Russia, Zelensky said in a video posted on social networks. We are gradually taking control of new localities. We are bringing back the Ukrainian flag and protection to our citizens everywhere.
As a result, the Russian army has sent reinforcements to the Kharkiv region. Russian state media showed pictures of military vehicles marked with the letter "Z" - symbol of the Russian invasion - on their way.
According to a Russian official, heavy fighting is taking place around the town of Balaklia, which Ukraine said Thursday it had regained control of. We have no control in Balaklia, the Russian deputy said. We are trying to expel Ukrainian troops, but the fighting is fierce and our men are being pushed back. Russian reservists have also been sent to the town.
