Ten dead after a collapse at a mining site in China

It is on the territory of the city of Baiyin, in the province of Gansu (north-west), that a section of mountain collapsed on the site of a coal mine. The accident resulted in 10 deaths and 17 minor injuries.

A tragic accident. Announced on the CCTV television channel, the collapse occurred on Saturday 23 July at around 11:15 am local time. At that time, some personnel were moving around the mine site. Although rescue operations are now over, ten people tragically lost their lives, buried alongside the vehicles. Seventeen other people were trapped before being rescued. There are minor injuries, their lives are not threatened.

This is not the first time this type of disaster has occurred. Last September, 19Chinese miners were found dead after the collapse of a coal mine in the northwestern province of Qinghai. In early 2021, 11 out of 22 miners were rescued after spending two weeks trapped underground in a collapsed mine in the eastern province of Shandong.

If this type of event is recurrent, security conditions seem to have improved in recent years. So has communication. These accidents, which used to be very often ignored, are now immediately publicized when they occur. A very important development.
