A 15-year-old teenager was killed and three people wounded by gunfire in broad daylight in Stockholm on Saturday, police said, adding that the circumstances were still unclear.
An hour after the incident, two men were arrested after a chase in the south of the Swedish capital, according to police.
Informed of a shooting near a square in the south of the city just after 6pm, police discovered two people with gunshot wounds at the scene. Two others were shot nearby, one of whom succumbed to his injuries. The three injured were hospitalized.
The person who died at the scene was a 15-year-old boy," Stockholm police spokesman Towe Hagg told AFP, adding that the circumstances of the shooting had not yet been established.
The other three people injured were a 15-year-old teenager, and a man and a woman aged 45 and 65 respectively, police added.
On Friday, three people were shot in separate incidents in the Stockholm area.
In recent years, Sweden has struggled to stem a wave of shootings and bombings, blamed on gangs settling scores over drug trafficking.
The country was the scene of 391 shootings in 2022, 62 of them fatal, compared with 45 the previous year, according to police data.
