“The Slovak police are working on a single version of the attack and the suspect is charged with attempted premeditated murder,” Matus Sutaj Estok told the press, adding that the attack was “politically motivated”.
Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico has been in stable but still “very serious” condition since Thursday morning, said Deputy Prime Minister Robert Kalinak.
“Last night, doctors managed to stabilize the patient's condition,” said Kalinak, who is also Minister of Defense. “Unfortunately, the condition remains very serious, as his injuries are complicated,” he added at a press briefing outside the Roosevelt Hospital in Banska Bystrica (center).
The 59-year-old executive underwent “a five-hour operation” on Wednesday, said facility director Miriam Lapunikova, confirming that he is still in a “really very serious” condition and will remain in intensive care.
