Seven people were killed, including an infant and a 12-year-old child, in a Russian bombardment of the Kherson region in southern Ukraine on Sunday, the Ukrainian authorities announced.

Interior Minister Igor Klymenko initially put the death toll at six: three adults and a 23-day-old baby in Chyroka Balka and two adults in Stanislav.

Mr. Klymenko then reported the death in hospital of a 12-year-old child who was seriously injured in the Chyroka Balka bombing.

"An entire family died in Chyroka Balka", he lamented.

One of the photos released by the Minister shows a column of black smoke rising above a house.

Kherson is one of four Ukrainian regions that Russian President Vladimir Putin has claimed as his own in September 2022. It remains partially under Ukrainian control, but is regularly targeted by Russian bombardments.

According to the Ukrainian prosecutor's office, 500 children have been killed and almost 1,100 wounded since the start of the Russian invasion in February 2022.

In Russia, the Ministry of Defense reported that two Ukrainian drones were shot down on Sunday over the Belgorod region and another over the Kursk region, both of which border Ukraine. This type of attack has become an almost daily occurrence.
