Russian army claims to have conquered the city of Kherson

The Russian army claimed on Wednesday morning to have seized the Ukrainian port city of Kherson, located in the south of the country, near the Crimean peninsula, after fierce fighting in recent hours.

 

Russian army units have taken full control of the regional capital of Kherson, said the spokesman for the Russian armed forces, Igor Konashenkov. A few minutes earlier, at 06:43 GMT, the Ukrainian mayor of the city, Igor Kolykhayev, said that the locality was still under Ukrainian control. We are still Ukraine. The city and its outskirts have suffered in recent hours of intense bombing. The region of Kherson, bordering Crimea, had been attacked from the beginning of the Russian invasion, on February 24 at dawn. The Russian army has already seized another key port in Ukraine, that of Berdiansk, and is currently attacking that of Mariupol.
