Deminers defused a 250-kilogram bomb in Berlin on Sunday. The bomb was discovered three weeks ago during work on the site of a hospital, which led to the evacuation of some 15,000 people, the Berlin police announced.
The evacuations began on Sunday morning and involved some 15,000 people living in the Berlin-Gesundbrunnen district in the north of the city, as well as the Jewish hospital and Red Cross centers within a 500 meter radius of the site.
Some 400 police officers went door to door during the day to ensure that all residents had left their homes. They sometimes had to insist that some evacuate.
Police announced in the evening that the bomb had been successfully defused, allowing residents to return to their homes.
