Maddie McCann case: Scotland Yard investigators believe the girl could still be alive

Sylvie Claire / December 28, 2021

It's a case that has caused a lot of ink to flow. The disappearance, in 2007, of little Maddie McCann while she was on vacation in Portugal with her parents. After 14 years of investigation, her parents do not want to give up. And on their side, the Scotland Yard investigators continue their research. According to them, the girl could still be alive today.

This Saturday, December 25, the Daily Mail said in an article that Scotland Yard investigators are still working on the disappearance of little Maddie McCann. The special unit of the British police continues to treat the case as if the girl had disappeared and not as if she had died. It is therefore still possible, according to investigators, that Maddie is alive.

The case has been widely publicized since it happened in 2007. Madeleine McCann was on vacation in Portugal with her parents when she was abducted. The Scotland Yard team does not want to give up hope, despite the fact that the German court has ruled that the girl - aged 3 at the time of the events - is dead. For the German authorities, it is the pedophile Christian Brueckner who kidnapped and murdered Maddie. The 43-year-old man was indeed at the same place as the McCann family at the time of the disappearance, on the night of May 3, 2007. He was located by a phone call.

He is now in prison. But despite the conclusion of the German prosecutor, Scotland Yard detectives have never stopped investigating year after year. Operation Grange (the code name for the case) is still active today. The British police have a special grant of 350,000 pounds running until 2022 to try to eliminate all possible leads. And as long as the parents of the girl do not have tangible proof of her death, they will continue to believe it…
