Kim Jong-un is back in the news: North Korea announces test firing of hypersonic missile

North Korea has test-fired a hypersonic missile, the official North Korean news agency KCNA reported Thursday, the first such test by Pyongyang this year.
The missile was fired on Wednesday and carried a hypersonic warhead that accurately hit a target 700 km away, according to KCNA.
This is the second time North Korea has reported firing a hypersonic missile, a sophisticated weapon that attests to the advances of the North Korean defense industry.
On Wednesday, South Korea and Japan detected Pyongyang firing an unidentified projectile, believed to be a ballistic missile, into the sea east of the peninsula (Sea of Japan, or East Sea as it is called in Korea).
The United States condemned the firing, which it said violates several UN Security Council resolutions and poses a threat to North Korea's neighbors and the international community.
