Four people were killed and many others injured on Sunday in a gas explosion at a restaurant in western Turkey, local authorities announced.
"Four of our fellow citizens lost their lives and a significant number of people were injured, some of whom are in serious condition," said the governor of Izmir province, Süleyman Elban.
The mayor of the town of Torbali, where the explosion took place, reported the same number of deaths on the private television channel NTV, estimating that 20 people were injured, 10 of them seriously.
According to the authorities, the explosion may have been caused by a gas cylinder.
