Fire breaks out in a container inside a ship in Dubai port: no casualties

A fire broke out Wednesday night in Dubai's main port, the emirate's communications department said on Twitter, after a loud explosion was heard throughout the city.

It was reported that a fire broke out in a container inside a ship anchored in Jebel Ali port. A team of Dubai Civil Defense (a fire department, ed.) is working to extinguish the fire, said the communication service.

At least three residents in the area of this incident reported doors and windows of their homes being violently shaken by this explosion.

 I was on my balcony. My friend saw something yellow like the sun coming. I took a picture and then we heard the noise,said Clemence Lefaix, who was near the explosion and posted the image of a bright, orange light in the sky, in the middle of the night, facing buildings.

A resident of the Madina neighborhood, near the port, told AFP she saw the windows shaking . I have lived here for 15 years and this is the first time I have seen and heard something like this, she added.

The emirate of Dubai, one of seven that make up the wealth of the United Arab Emirates, is considered ultra-safe.
