Elon Musk sells Tesla shares again for $1 billion

Steph Deschamps / December 29, 2021

Elon Musk has once again sold a portion of his shares in the electric vehicle manufacturer Tesla.

The multi-billionaire boss of the carmaker sold 934,000 shares for a total of $1.02 billion, the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) said Wednesday.

On November 6, the entrepreneur had posted a poll on Twitter to determine whether he should divest 10% of his stake in Tesla, of which he is the largest individual shareholder. Since then, he has sold 15.6 million shares for a total of $16.4 billion. To reach the 10%, Elon Musk needs to sell about 17 million shares.

A portion of the proceeds will go directly to taxes.

According to calculations by the Bloomberg news agency, Elon Musk's net assets total $278.9 billion.
