The accident took place during an end-of-term fair in an elementary school in Devonport, on the island of Tasmania (south). The children fell about ten meters. Two boys and two girls aged about 11 years died, and five other children were seriously injured, said the Tasmanian police.

Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison lamented a heartbreaking accident. Young children having fun outside with their families, and it turns into this horrible tragedy, at this time of year, it breaks your heart, he said.

The weather forecast had predicted light winds and sunny weather for the early southern summer in the region, located on Tasmania's northern coast.
