Death of Queen Elizabeth II: crowds in front of St. Gilles Cathedral in Edinburgh for the farewell to Queen Elizabeth
Steph Deschamps / September 12, 2022
Thousands of Scots travelled to Edinburgh on Monday to say goodbye to Queen Elizabeth II. The line outside St. Giles Cathedral in Edinburgh was already very long Monday morning, the BBC reported.
Some people have been waiting since Sunday evening outside the cathedral to greet the British monarch who died last week at the age of 96 at Balmoral Castle, her Scottish vacation home.
Elizabeth's remains will be taken from the Royal Residence at Holyroodhouse to nearby St. Giles Cathedral around 3:30 p.m. A liturgical service will be held in the cathedral at 4:00 p.m. with family, friends, and representatives of charities and organizations supported by Elizabeth.
The public will have the opportunity to march in front of the casket to pay their respects to the Queen after the service, starting at 5:00 pm.
