At least 10 people were killed and 21 injured after a bus carrying workers to work at a factory in the southern Brazilian state of Paraná fell into a ravine, the local federal highway police told the foreign press on Thursday.

According to the police report, the accident occurred before midnight in the municipality of Sapopema, where 7 people lost their lives, while the other three died en route to a hospital in the area.

According to foreign media, the bus was carrying more than 30 passengers from various parts of the country, who were heading to a factory owned by Klabin, Brazil's largest paper producer and exporter, in the city of Campos Gerais.

According to the first information, the driver lost control of the vehicle probably because of the heavy rain at the time of the accident.
