At least 9 dead and several injured in a school shooting in Russia, the shooter is a teenager.

 

Nine people were killed Tuesday in a school shooting in the central Russian city of Kazan, where one of the suspected shooters, a teenager, has been detained, according to Russian news agencies.

 

According to the rescue services quoted by the agencies Interfax, TASS and Ria Novosti, nine people were killed: eight students and a teacher. According to TASS, ten other people were injured, four of whom were hospitalized.

 

Law enforcement agencies have arrested a teenager, who is suspected of being behind the shooting, another source in the emergency services was quoted by Ria Novosti as saying, adding that 21 ambulance brigades have been dispatched to the scene.

 

The shooter has been arrested. It is a teenager, an anonymous source added, quoted by the Interfax agency.

 

According to Interfax and TASS, a second suspected shooter may still be in the school building.

 

We heard an explosion in the school building, we see heavy smoke, said earlier an unidentified witness, quoted by Ria Novosti.

 

 

I was in class, first I heard an explosion, then gunshots, a teacher at the school confirmed to the TASS agency.

 

The authorities of Tatarstan, the Russian republic of which Kazan is the capital, have announced that security measures have been strengthened in other schools in the city. The local leader Rustam Minnikhanov went to the scene.
