The body of Shinzo Abe arrived early Saturday afternoon (local time) at his home in Tokyo, aboard a hearse in which Akie, his wife, had taken place and which had left at dawn the hospital of Kashihara, near Nara (west), where the former Prime Minister had been taken care after his assault.

The 67-year-old former leader was delivering a speech for the ruling Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) on Friday morningahead of Sunday's Senate elections when he was shot twice in the neck. Mr. Abe was pronounced dead a few hours later, despite the efforts of a team of 20 doctors. Local LDP officials said they had not received any threats prior to the attack, which was shown on television. Security was present, but it was easy for onlookers to approach Mr. Abe. According to local media, a wake is planned for Monday evening and the funeral will take place on Tuesday, attended only by Mr. Abe's family and friends.
