A bus carrying 75 people falls into a ravine in Guatemala: the death toll continues to rise

The bus was travelling from San Agustin Acasaguastlan, in the department of El Progreso, some 100 km from Guatemala City.

The death toll from a bus crash in Guatemala City on Monday, which fell into a ravine on a bridge at the entrance to the capital, has been revised to 52, emergency services have announced.

There are “52 bodies in the provisional morgue”, a fire department spokesman told reporters. “A unified command has been formed with the country's various rescue institutions” and ‘we have pulled a total of 52 bodies’, from the carcass of the coach which was carrying 75 people, added another firefighter, José Santizo.

According to the images, the bus crashed onto its roof at the bottom of the road.
