The left-wing mayor of this municipality of about 4,300 inhabitants, Conrado Mendoza, was one of the victims of this attack launched in broad daylight in this part of Mexico plagued by violence related to drug trafficking.
His father, who was a mayor several years ago, is also among the victims, according to police sources.
Two people were also wounded during this attack, declared without more precisions the prosecutor Sandra Luz Valdovinos to the television Milenio.
But according to the Mexican press, it is the fact of drug traffickers of the state of Jalisco (west), allied to the powerful cartel Jalisco Nueva Generacion.
Some 94 mayors have already been assassinated in Mexico since 2000, according to the organization Etellekt.
Some 340,000 people have died violent deaths in Mexico since 2006, when the government deployed the army to fight the drug cartels.
