Who is Véronique Bédague, this woman you may soon hear a lot about?

Eva Deschamps / May 2, 2022

In a few days, the Government of Emmanuel Macron, freshly re-elected as French President, will be reshuffled. Macron will therefore have to find a successor to Jean Castex as Prime Minister. And for now, it is difficult to know who is the favorite.

A few days ago, the outgoing President had declared that he was looking for someone who is committed to social, environmental and productive issues. And according to Le Parisien, this person could be Véronique Bédague.

The 58-year-old woman was indeed received at length during the week by the Secretary General of the Elysée, Alexis Kohler.

But who is Véronique Bédague really? What is certain is that she is unknown to the general public. Le Parisien describes her as a left-wing enarque who worked in the budget administration, the IMF and the Ministry of Economy in the early 2000s.

After working at the Paris City Hall, she landed a job as Manuel Valls' chief of staff at Matignon. It was there that she got to know Emmanuel Macron. Today, Véronique Bédague is number 2 of the real estate giant Nexity, but she could well quickly leave her position for another one with much more media coverage. This may be the chief's surprise, according to the French daily.
