Peru: discovery of a tied up mummy old of 800 to 1.200 years

Peruvian archaeologists discovered in the suburbs of Lima a pre-Incaic mummy, old of between 800 and 1.200 years, tied with cords, indicated to the AFP an official of the excavation.

The mummy, which has the face covered with its hands, is probably a man aged between 18 and 22 years, buried between 800 and 1200 after Jesus Christ. It was discovered in a funerary chamber of conical form to 1,40 meter of depth on the archaeological site of Cajamarquilla, to 24 km to the east of Lima.

It is about a mummy tied with cords, told the AFP the archaeologist Pieter Van Dalen, responsible for the project Cajamarquilla. It is a particular and unique characteristic for the time and the place, according to him.

The skeleton of a guinea pig and that of another animal that could be a dog were found in the same burial chamber, which also contained remains of corn and other plants.

According to Van Dalen, Cajamarquilla was an important urban center, with approximately 10,000 to 20,000 inhabitants, built around 200 B.C. and remained occupied until the 16th century of our era.
