Fashion week starts in Paris with a manifesto of young designers

Steph Deschamps / September 28, 2022

With a "manifesto of love" of young designers, the French Victor Weinsanto opens Monday evening the Paris Fashion Week that will see the first time the British Victoria Beckham.

As is traditionally the case in Paris, priority to young people on the first day: the week of women's ready-to-wear spring-summer 2023 will begin at 17H00 with the parade of Victor Weinsanto, 28, former ballet dancer trained by Jean Paul Gaultier before launching his brand in 2020.

His "eclectic" collection is "a manifesto of love" of a generation, explained Sunday to AFP this native of Strasbourg, in his Parisian workshop near the Gare de l'Est, saying he is inspired for his clothes of "his friends young designers.

Kindness, creation, freedom, madness and humor are again the essence of what we are looking for in fashion right now. We want to escape," says the blue-eyed, orange-haired designer, after wearing them pink for several seasons.

Made almost entirely from "dormant stock" fabrics sold by luxury brands, the collection is meant to be responsible and "inclusive," where a piece is meant to be "worn by mother and daughter."

"I like the idea that a garment has no gender, I dress sometimes masculine, sometimes feminine," says the designer, adding that similar clothes "are not constructed the same way for women and men. »

The fashion show will be followed by the launch in Paris of a project in the metaverse with the K-POP group Lightsum whose singers will be present virtually, in holograms.

These are "wearable silhouettes that do not distort the girls of the group". NFTs, digital certificates of authenticity, will go on sale in the metaverse in October.

"I don't think it's essential to have a project in the metaverse in addition to the physical show," says Victor Weinsanto, who says he is "fascinated" by the universe.

"We can really free ourselves (...). I want to go further in 3D", he confides.

More than 100 French and international labels are registered for this edition of Paris Fashion week. Almost all the houses have opted for physical shows including heavyweights like Dior, Chanel, Balenciaga, Stella McCartney, Thom Browne or Issey Miyake.

The British Victoria Beckham spiced up this edition by integrating the Paris Fashion Week for the first time.
