The end of the Angela Merkel era: Olaf Scholz has just been elected Chancellor by the Bundestag!

Social Democrat Olaf Scholz was elected chancellor of Germany on Wednesday by the Bundestag, putting a definitive end to the 16 years of Angela Merkel's era.
Supported by the SPD, the Greens and the Liberals, Mr. Scholz, 63, received the votes of 395 of the 736 members of the Bundestag.
He was to go to the residence of the President of the Federal Republic, Frank-Walter Steinmeier, to receive his certificate of appointment.
