Presidential 2022: Emmanuel Macron promises a refounded method to be the president of all

Sylvie Claire / April 25, 2022

Emmanuel Macron, re-elected president of the Republic on Sunday with about 58% of the vote against Marine Le Pen, promised on Sunday a refounded method to be the president of all, during an address to his supporters at the Champ de Mars in Paris.

This new era will not be the continuity of the five-year term that is ending, but the collective invention of a new method for five years of better service to our country, to our youth, assured the outgoing president during his victory speech from the Champ de Mars.

The re-elected president arrived at this emblematic Parisian site, where the Eiffel Tower is enthroned, surrounded by his wife and children of members of his campaign team, to the background of Ode to Joy from Beethoven's 9th symphony, the European anthem.

I want to thank all the French people who, in the first and second rounds, gave me their confidence to make our project for a more independent France and a stronger Europe a reality. And through investments and profound changes, to continue to ensure concrete progress for everyone, by releasing creativity and innovation in our country, and to make France a great ecological nation, said Emmanuel Macron.

I also know that many of our compatriots have voted for me today not to support the ideas I hold but to block those of the extreme right. And I want to thank them and tell them that I am aware that this vote obliges me for the years to come, continued the head of state.

Asking his supporters not to boo Marine Le Pen or her voters, Macron said, No, don't boo anyone. Since the beginning I asked you never to whistle. Because from now on, I am no longer the candidate of one camp but the president of all.

I know that for many of our compatriots, who have chosen the extreme right today, the anger and disagreements that led them to vote for this project, must also find a response. This will be my responsibility and that of those around me, he said.

The war in Ukraine is a reminder that we are going through tragic times when France must speak out, show the clarity of its choices, and build its strength in all areas. And we will do so, he also declared.

Emmanuel Macron spoke in front of his supporters and members of his government, his majority and his campaign team, including Prime Minister Jean Castex, Foreign Minister Jean-Yves Le Drian, Justice Minister Eric Dupond-Moretti, or his ally MoDem President François Bayrou.

The re-elected president then took a walk with his wife.

Emmanuel Macron was re-elected Sunday as president of the Republic with about 58% of the vote against Marine Le Pen (about 42%) according to initial estimates, a clear victory tempered by the unprecedented score of the far right and a high abstention (28%).
