Will Smith has decided to resign from the Academy of the Oscars after the slap he gave to the comedian Chris Rock in the middle of the awards ceremony, he announced in a statement.
The list of those I have hurt is long and includes Chris, his family, many of my dear friends and loved ones, all those who were in the audience or at home, Will Smith wrote in this text released by the trade magazine Variety. I am resigning my position as a member of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences and will accept whatever consequences the board of directors deems appropriate, the 53-year-old actor assures.
