The new James Bond film, Dying Can Wait, had the best UK launch of any film in the franchise, Universal Pictures announced Tuesday, earning 25 million pounds over the weekend.
Released on Thursday in the UK and Ireland, the film, which is the last one with actor Daniel Craig in the clothes of Her Majesty's most famous spy, has established itself in three days as the number one film at the UK box office. The launch of Dying Can Wait is also the 6th best film launch of all time in the UK. This raises hopes for a revival of the British film industry, which has been badly affected by Covid-19 and after the multiple postponements of this big-budget production.
The film, which also stars Rami Malek, Lashana Lynch and Ana de Armas, can now be seen in 54 countries (but not yet in France or the United States). It has grossed a total of $121 million , according to Universal, making it the first Hollywood release to exceed $100 million without counting China among its opening markets.
Dying can wait is conceived as the epilogue of the five James Bond films in which Daniel Craig has played, since Casino Royale 15 years ago. The character invented by the writer Ian Fleming is brought out of retirement to face his best enemies: Blofeld, the Spectre organization and especially the formidable Safin (Rami Malek).
