Keith Levene, guitarist and founder of punk bands The Clash and Public Image Ltd (PiL) has died at the age of 65, New Musical Express (NME) reported Saturday

Keith Levense started his career at 15 as a roadie for the symphonic rock band Yes. In 1978, he founded The Clash with singer Joe Strummer.

However, he left the band before he could record any songs.

After the separation of the Sex Pistols, the musician creates PiL, with Johnny Lydon. He left the band three albums later, because of "creative differences" regarding the fourth album, "This Is What You Want... This Is What You Get", says NME

He then collaborated on his PiL friend Jah Wobble's last album, "Commercial Zone" (2014).

Keith Levene was suffering from liver cancer and died Friday at his home in Norfolk, according to The Guardian newspaper.
