He made headlines with his historic trip into space at age 90 aboard Amazon boss Jeff Bezos' rocket.
New astronaut William Shatner fired back at criticism from Prince William about the billionaires' space race after the Queen's grandson, second in line to the throne, said the rich should be trying to fix this planet, not trying to find the next place to go live.
In an interview with Entertainment Tonight, a day after making his historic trip into space, William Shatner, 90, said Prince William misunderstood the purpose of his trip. He's a lovely Englishman. He will be king of England one day, the former Star Trek star said. He's sweet and educated, but he didn't get the whole idea.
Shatner, famous for playing Captain Kirk on Star Trek, traveled into space on an 11-minute flight with Blue Origin, the aerospace company founded by Amazon boss Jeff Bezos.
Without specifically mentioning Jeff Bezos by name, the Duke told the BBC: We need some of the greatest minds and brains in the world to try to fix this planet, not to try to find the next place to live.
It's really crucial to focus on this [planet] rather than giving up and going into space to try and think of solutions for the future, the Duke of Cambridge had said, adding that he had absolutely no interest in going to space. And to wonder about the carbon cost of space flights.
