The happy event is much talked about... and not only in good. The Spanish actress Ana Obregón announced, this Thursday, that she had become a mother of a baby girl born by surrogate motherhood (GPA). A "light of love in the darkness" for the Iberian star who lost her first son, Alex Lequio, who died in 2020 at the age of 27 years from cancer.

The problem? GPA is illegal in Spain. Result: the announcement of this maternity had the effect of a bomb on the Iberian peninsula. The public opinion showed its anger, but also the political class. The Spanish left-wing government, which claims to be feminist, has strongly criticized this method. "It is a practice that is not legal in Spain, which is legally recognized as a form of violence against women," said to the press, the Minister of Equality, Irene Montero, member of the radical left-wing formation Podemos, as reported by AFP.

It is the appearance of the actress on the front page of people magazine Hola! On the picture, she leaves a hospital in Miami with her little girl in her arms.

The image seems to me Dantesque," denounced the Minister of Education and spokesperson for the Socialist Party of Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez, Pilar Alegría. "This is called a womb for rent, not surrogate motherhood," she added. The right, on the other hand, is more open to debate on the issue. Their condition: to approach these topics in a deep and serene way", because it touches many moral, ethical, religious issues ».

GPA, whether paid or not, is illegal in Spain, as it is in many European countries (including Belgium). However, it is possible to register children born abroad through GPA in the Spanish registry office, as long as they present "a judicial resolution issued by a competent court" in the country in question and establishing filiation.

The actress, a new mother, did not want to react to the controversy, but she still announced the birth on her Instagram account: "I will never be alone again. I started to live again. »
