Meghan Markle: why her Netflix series is going down the drain

Steph Deschamps / May 2, 2022

It was one of Meghan Markle's big projects... and it will probably never see the light of day. In its cost-saving plan, Netflix would have thrown Pearl in the trash, the project of the Duchess of Sussex.

Not even the royals are immune to the wave of cost-cutting affecting Netflix. In the wake of declining subscriber numbers and a plummeting stock price, Netflix has refocused its investments... and quietly dropped Pearl.

Pearl was the working title of the animated series created by Meghan Markle via Archewell Productions, the company the Duchess of Sussex and Prince Harry created in the fall of 2020. Pearl was to be Archewell's first animated series.

As a reminder, this project of Meghan Markle was to present the heroic adventures of a 12-year-old girl inspired by influential women in history. A series that was to be produced in collaboration with David Furnish, the husband of Sir Elton John! Will it still see the light of day? Meghan Markle, not being a neophyte of the Hollywood world, must know that a no can quickly turn into a yes.

Finally, it should be noted that despite a contract of 133 million euros, Harry and Meghan's company has not yet produced any content for Netflix…
