American actor Richard Chamberlain died on Saturday at the age of 90, following complications from a stroke, Variety magazine reported on Sunday. The actor had gained widespread public recognition in the 1960s for his role in the medical series “Dr. Kildare”.
Richard Chamberlain has also appeared in the mini-series “The Birds Hide to Die” and “Shogun”, as well as in the TV series “Will & Grace”, “Desperate Housewives”, “Chuck” and “Brothers & Sisters”.
“Our dear Richard is now with the angels,” his companion said in a statement. “What a blessing to have known such an exceptional and loving soul. Love never dies. And our love carries him under its wings to his next great adventure.”
The actor had concealed his homosexuality for most of his career to protect his privacy and because he felt this discretion was necessary for his acting career. It was only in his autobiography, “Shattered Love: A Memoir” (2003), that he revealed his sexual orientation.
